USA 2023 International Merit Student Scholarship

International students can apply for the USA 2023 International Merit Student Scholarship. The scholarship permits students to enroll in Bachelor’s and Master’s level programs in any of the University of Houston’s courses. The scholarship application deadline is June 15, 2023.

The University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) offers a scholarship program for overseas students who exhibit academic proficiency and significant academic potential called the International Merit Student Scholarship. A portion of the recipient’s tuition and expenses may be covered by the scholarship, which is given out on the basis of academic merit. All overseas students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees at UHV are eligible for the award. Each year, the amount and number of scholarships offered may change, and winners may need to maintain a specific GPA in order to keep their scholarships.

Benefits of the Scholarship

The International Merit Scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. The scholarship might lower the overall tuition by $3,000 to $10,000. (two semesters). Scholarship amounts for overseas students with F-1 and J-1 visas will be based on the cost of residency. The scholarship is solely good for tuition & fees. This scholarship does not cover any additional expenditures, such as those for accommodation, food, transportation, personal expenses, books, supplies, or health insurance. Only UHV students are eligible to use the scholarship. For the autumn, spring, and summer semesters, winners are eligible for rewards and waivers. for full-time undergraduate and graduate studies at UHV. The $1000 guaranteed scholarship for students living on campus is included in this award.

The Eligibility Criteria

  • Admitted student to UHV
  • At the time of award, the student must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits at UHV for undergraduate students, and 9 credits for graduate students.
  • Returning/or current students must have two semesters remaining to graduate (the semester receiving the scholarship cannot be the final semester)
  • Returning/Current students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above for undergraduate students and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above for graduate students.
  • Approval for volunteer opportunities must be approved in advance. If applicable all spring scholarship recipients must re-apply for the fall merit scholarship before the deadline (see below).
  • International students or students on another non-immigrant visa status
    1. F-1 and J-1 students must be on the relevant visa status on or before the state date of their immigration document
    2. F-1 and J-1 students must attend mandatory International Student orientation at Victoria or Katy
    3. All non-immigrant status students must be of good academic and immigration status
  • Have a demonstrated record of academic achievement.

Students who are not Eligible

  • Graduate students receiving a graduate assistantship or tuition scholarship
  • UHV Athletes receiving Athletics Scholarships
  • International Students receiving International Student Cultural Scholarship
  • Students receiving any other UHV tuition scholarship waivers
  • Students receiving any other UHV competitive scholarships
  • Students receiving Texas resident tuition fees
  • Students enrolled part-time at UHV and part-time at another institution in Texas
  • Failing to maintain academic and immigration status during the awarding year.
